11:45 to The Big One

The world is spinning faster it seems. Like all the air is a bit too thick, a bit too tense.

Sam's facing a prophesied future heavy with burdens. A destiny he thought about in dreams but never took to such dedication. He had a life to live first. The world seems to have put this on his shoulders and now he's facing living up standards to not disappoint many, or just shucking responsibility and living his own path.

Kyra was coerced into joining a group she didn't believe in, to infiltrate another group that had tried to kill her, to travel to the dark land of tortured souls, and return to find the traces of her have been removed. She's come full circle. Now, unlike Sam, nothing is expected of her. In a way, it's a more burdensome potential.

Xander has done what Xander always does. He's there. He smokes. He survives somehow. Yet like a messenger, many different forces are going to thrust him into duties that may either save the world, or bring everything crashing down.

Vince has been reunited with his wife who has somehow become the first spirit they've met to manifest without a host. He's now got tunnel vision, one goal. To find their son. But the heart of plague and violence is thick, and his son is theoretically in the very center of it.

But there are terrible things ahead. The future that the Shadow Council was afraid of, a world where Sam had given everyone free universal healthcare, is in danger. A new future has been written from nowhere. A new group no one saw coming has changed both the dystopian cyberpunk future of the Shadow Council and the utopian galaxy spanning future of Sam's prophecy.

The new future is looking more and more like endless madness, violence, and the complete breakdown of not only society, but reality itself.

[It's evening. Sprinkles of rain have been threatening for an hour, the clouds are farther away than they should be. The sun is beaming down bright through the cool sprinkling. The wind is there but slight enough. Storms in the Shadowside, storms on this side.]

[When Xander, Vince, and Leepina pull up Leepina does the talking. They soon have a parking pass, there among over a hundred cars in a field. Far ahead they can see Dylan's car but Sam and Jolene are nowhere to be seen. The place is crawling with people. When they reach the processions, it becomes obvious that this is actually a Renaissance Faire. Stalls sell things. Shows are going on. Among the crowd, they can see tons of people.]

[Accellatric officers off shift enjoying lamb leg. Some punker kids making fireballs in their hands to show off to young kids. Goblins and fairies beatbox battle rapping against some Voodoo dreadlocked figures. The Sisterhood of Salem has a sign up at a stall, telling people about the wonders of new age magick and the spirit world and chakras. There's even a medieval-esque stall where priests tell passerbyes about the joys of Christ.]

[In the middle of such chaos, no one seems to recognize any of them. Only Leepina nods to a few people and says hi. Xander is somehow drawn off to a group of heads among a tent that is smoking.]

[No one bats an eye at Maria strolling behind Vince.]

[It's strangely relaxing here, completely against the morbid affairs of what's occurring only thirty miles to the south.]

{Boss, we got a problem. Big one. I survived for centuries off of stupid common peasant folk. Old country. Even in big cities there's a lot of gullible minds unprotected.}

{Mind reading, how do I put this. Imagine I see everyone's head as a doorway. Some of them, untrained, like you guys when we met, you're like those swinging doors in a kitchen. Just push softly and you're in.}

{Some people, trained, are like hard wood. Some doors locked, chained.
If they have a spirit like me or Flidais though, it can be a vault
door.}

{A few of these people, especially the mortals and fairy folk from the
faire, all swinging doors. Most of them, steel doors or at least locked and chained. A lot of people here have spirit buddies. Lots of vault doors. So I can't guarantee the most here.}

[A sigh of disappointment.]

{I keep letting you down, buddy.}

[Things went as expected. A rifle round fired. The kick of a gun to shoulder. A small hole in the rear window. A helicopter veers down. It's like a movie, like a crazy experience from third person, or maybe a ride at Universal Studios. It's so unrealistic. Especially the plume of explosion and fire that lifts from the helicopter.]

[Whether it was Sam or Ai's help or even Jolene taking over, the event happened. It appears the only variable was Sam's choice. And now he has to face that choice. A choice that grows character, changes minds, and paves the future. Who Sam will be ten years from now can be effected by this one choice.]

[Sam faced that entire scene in his mind and when he came too, he realized Jolene was walking him through a Ren Faire. She took him past a Sisterhood stall, into a wide big tent filled with military bunkbeds, beanbags, lots of new age hippies and stoners, to a table where a werewolf was preparing their dinner.]

[Sam is left alone as the other guests leave the tent. It's him, Jolene, a table with a full turkey dinner, complete with stuffing and yams and green beans. Jolene starts to dig into the food and then looks up at him.]

You hungry?

[Sam was just in a car holding a rifle aimed at a helicopter, and now he's here at a dinner in a Faire of smelly hippies and tourists. It might take some time to adapt.]

I don't know Vince. Something tells me that this isn't a trap to get you and Sam. I mean, look at this place.

Something tells me this is a last stand. I've been reading reports from Accell's server all morning. The biggest names are flying in to come here. Enemies, friends. Rivals. Everyone. People who yesterday Accell was about to kill, people who were involved in espionage. Suddenly everyone's coming together pretending that there's no history.

That's a bad sign. Every episode of every saturday morning cartoon I saw as a kid had this episode. Where He Man and Skeletor team up against a worse villain. GI Joe and Cobra team up to fight something world ending. Hell, any Marvel comic. Dr Doom and Mister Fantastic and Galactus and Captain America only team up when !@#$%^&*'s fucked.

Seeing the city back there, that truck, how Accell just overnight tore in half. I think !@#$%^&*'s fucked. And they know it. They're celebrating their last days on Earth here. Hidden among that is a meeting that I snuck an invite to.

A meeting of everyone important who is willing to stand up against the plague and these monsters.

Reading reports all week of actions all over the world. Reports of action theaters in all parts of the world, of every group. Casualty reports of Accell agents getting pounded by these forces. Casualty reports of civilians dying in the thousands.

Maybe you're right, though. Maybe once they get Shaggy they won't blink twice at us. Let's see.

{I hear the flutes, Kyra. I hear my homeland. Someone is here from my past. There's fairy folk here. There's mother earth's followers. And this tent city is covered in rituals.}

{Layers on layers of protection. Runes of warding. Evil is kept away, violence is hushed. This is mother's arms. So safe.}

[The plant is nervous now.]

{There is safety here. But if they have prepared so hard to ward away danger then that points to what they fear. Something bad is in the air. Something terrible. Those filthy, smelly, terrifying creatures we saw in the truck are the face of it.}

{I feel safe among those of my brethren in the Faire ahead. But I fear the same as they fear, something worse waits outside.}

[At this point both Vince, Leepina, and Maria see Ricardo. There's a very large tent at the far back of the faire. Ricardo is sitting on a stool a dozen feet from it's entrance with two followers. Ricardo has a very nice suit on, short hair with touches of gray in it. A wide smile. His heritage in his jawline and eyes from both cultures on the border of France and Spain. He's a dandy, a very well groomed, borderline metro man. With a wood cross over his necktie. He's probably forty.]

[To his left is a very tall, broadly shouldered man. Like a linebacker. A man in a t shirt and jeans. The muscle. Over one shoulder is a leather jacket and he's smiling and laughing. Mid thirties.]

[To his right is a skinny woman, no, as they look closer it's a very effeminate man. The five o clock shadow gives it away. With dress shirt and slacks, a bluetooth in one ear, black hair to his shoulders. Glasses. His lips are clenched in a grumpy demeanor, he's trying to ignore Ricardo's conversation and do something on his tablet. Early twenties.]

[At one point Vince and Ricardo's eyes make contact and linger for a moment, but the man goes back to his conversation as if nothing's happening.]

(Alright everyone. That's our chapter starting point. You all can make decisions as you like, and if anything conflicts, I'll retcon my posts and alter their content. Other than that, have fun with the apocalypse!)

{Brother, stop putting yourself down. You know I only call you Monster out of affection and shit. In reality you're the best thing that's ever happened to me, and I wouldn't be with Maria without you, and I wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell to get my son without you. I'd be just one more hobo munching on a turkey leg out there and fearing the night. Now we have a shot at curing the plague if Sam plays ball. It's all good! Look, once we're in the meeting, just focus on the assholes -exactly like we did at Ultropolis. Sure, some assholes are vault doors -just don't trip any alarms if you can. If it looks like you're going to trip an alarm, back off. Whatever we get we get. I'll bluff like I can't be lied to, anyway. It's gonna be fun.}

[He walks along the Ren Fair, wondering why none of these people seem to be hoarding the food, or rationing it, or the cutlery or the tarps or siphoning the gas out of the cars or building a crude perimeter defense -all of that Day Z crap he expected would happen, and in this happy corner of earth is not happening. Not yet. Maybe because half of these folks are magical creatures, perhaps. Maybe they don't think it's gonna get that bad. Maybe they already gave up, and said, fuck it, let's have one last day of fun. And in that case, there's a disturbing lack of orgies going on.]

I don't know Leeps. I expected a military base, you know? I expected Z-day preparations. Maybe they're there and I just don't see them -well played if that's the case; they'll draw an overconfident attack. But I have half a mind to pop open the trunk and start stuffing elephant earns and turkey legs in there, know what I mean? We need ammo, too.

[Vince has never seen Ricardo's face, so he doesn't recognize the guy, and walks up straight to him -it's only when he overhears his voice that he recognizes him. His voice is quite unique, sounds just like Fez.]

Found ya. [He nods a hi to the Big guy and the small guy-ette by the side] Folks. Okay. We're here. Shaggy, Ricardo, Ricardo, Shaggy. You know Leeps. [he assumes they can't see Maria, which he prefers] Let's do this gentlemen. 10 minutes.

{Be ready for anything, honey [he says to Maria] I still don't fully trust these people...}

{What is it that these creatures have to fear? The most disturbing thing about all this is how suddenly it all came on. That means that either whatever caused this has had their plan in motion without any of the major players noticing, or they are powerful enough to create this kind of disaster on a whim. Whatever the case, I hope that the people at that meeting can come to an agreement.}
[Kyra wanders around the tents, taking in all the strange sights.]

{I believe, my lady, that the Dark Lord said the Shadow Council saw Sam change health care in the future. The man hasn't even finished his college education yet. They fear who Sam will become dozens of years from now. Not who he is now.}

{Whatever created this problem of a demonic influx, probably has more things planned. The fairy folk quaked in fear when man arrived, they knew. They knew the end of their time was near. We're on the edges now. In forests and dark places.}

{But we can feel it. We can taste it in the air. It's like mankind will be able to know our fear now. That brings me no solace. But if this comes the way it feels, if it's the same feeling we felt when man arrived to mow down forests, commit genocide, and commit perpetual war on us and then themselves, these wards are for a reason. We can feel something new coming, something that wants to act the same way.}

{I can only hope these powerful human spirit hybrids meeting here today are powerful enough to make sure humans don't get pushed to the fringes like we were. I've grown to like the peaceful humans.}

[Ricardo sizes Vince up.]

Did I say 10 minutes? I do exaggerate. Okay. Very well.

[He whispers to the big man who lumbers off towards the Sisterhood tent.]

Luis will go find Jolene.

[Ricardo whispers to the other man, who blushes and then leaves.]

Bernard will go round up the rest. Many of them wanted to enjoy the day before business. But I suppose you're a good example to place business before pleasure.

Perhaps we shall chat now. While we have a moment apart. I understand your plight Vince. You are a man of war, and your first instinct is your child.

What is expected here is that a lot of very powerful important people will share their story. Then we wish for you to share your story.

After that, you are free to leave. I do believe, however, your valuable experiences are worth allowing you in on this.

[Ricardo nods to other assistants at the tent edge. They have a collection of
storage containers with labels. Every person heading to the tent stops, pulls all the guns and knives, cell phones and electronic devices, and any other technology out of their pockets and place them in the container.]

I will be in the tent when you are ready.

[Leepina looks at Vince.]

So Jolene told me how this works. The tent is suppressed. No signals will go in and out, and no devices will work in there for anyone. They've also layered it with wards.

If we're packing, they'll know. If we use spirit abilities, they'll know. I was told any use of magic by anyone will be seen as an act of aggression.

She says they've done this for thousands of years, they way their ancestors did. Hell, Accell feed indicates the only reason Somosa and Malleus agree to meet face to face without a bloodbath is for these security precautions.

We're such tiny fish in a sea of sharks. I'm thinking if anything went down, the smell of blood will turn the sharks on each other.

[With that, Vince can see people arriving. A young chinese man followed by two beautiful girls. A businesswoman followed by two Accellatrix officers. A man with dreadlocks followed by men in slimmed down swat uniforms and a woman in wife beater and jeans. A woman in white robes, she looks more like a video game character, followed by two priests.]

[Each group stops and places their guns, machetes, grenades, holy water, laptops, and other objects into self marked blue containers.]

[Aradia helps Vince cycle through his visions and shows him that each of the people and their two or three guests are all packing spirits.]

Wow. Holy crap. Just watching these people enter the tent is giving my goosebumps.

Leeps, we are not, once again, small fish. [he says, confidentially, to her] In fact, we don't even need the water -unlike these poor pot-committed slaves. Compared to them, we have precious little to lose, and no debts [he makes a gesture spreading his fingers out from his forehead:] free your mind, sweetheart [he smiles.]

{Maria, you are many things, many of them beautiful and alluring, but one thing you are not is a "signal". No "signals" will go in our out of the tent, said Leeps, who somehow learned this from Jolene either -before- we discussed our signal plan in front of her and chose to say nothing even as we dropped Kyra and walked in here, or -after- we discussed our signal plan and we just didn't see her chatting with Jolene, cellphone perhaps, while we were walking. Either way is fine by us, as you and I will both be in the tent signaling each other -until you have something to say to Kyra, in which case you just walk -out of the tent- see? no signals went in or out. This doesn't change our plans one bit, unless someone in there turns out capable of reading minds too -and- is able to best Maellan, just wait for it. Hah. I'm getting tired of these jokers. The more defenses they put up, the more alluring is for me to break them. It's like a dare, almost. And you know me... I don't do well with dares. They'd better start proving their usefulness and good-will soon, honey. So far I'm not impressed seeing a goddamn ren fair when we should be in def-con 1. I'm getting itchy.}

I just want a world not wholly-fucked for my kid to live in, Ricardo. But one thing about being in first-name basis with the ruler of Hell is that I'm not so afraid of the "worst case scenario" anymore. Worst case scenario we all die, my son, me, Maria's already dead, and we all move to Ultropolis or somewhere like it as a family and start a cabin in the woods and take up knitting while the rest of the world rides the handbasket. Reason I'm in your meeting at all is to try to help prevent the rest of the world going to hell -although it sounds like that's more of Sam's job- but my point is that saving the world, even saving my son, it's not leverage exactly. Not anymore. Anyway. Let's do this while we both still have good will.

[As a sign of good will, Vince leaves his AR-15 and Ultropolis tablet by the bin, like everyone else. Then walks in and takes a place at the table and starts tapping his fingers on it as he watches everyone else take their seats.]

{Brother, take your time. Enjoy the safe-cracking. Once you're sure one of them is a rat, give me some proof and we'll get the party started. Just take care not to trip any alarms. You do your thing, Monster -do your beautiful Monster thing...}

(No worries. I made a leap of narrative. Sam was aiming a rifle, a helicopter crashed and exploded like a movie scene, and Sam was at the camp in a tent with Jolene. As part of seeing, I left it up to you to fill in the blanks. Did Sam shoot? Did Jolene take over for him? How does that choice to kill someone effect Sam? All yours. The only events that are assured is the Helicopter went down and they ended up at the tent with a turkey feast. Also, as soon as we resolve this Sam sequence I'll get back to the meeting with Vince.)

Do you want to know your future?

[Sam looks over to the corner and he can see a man in a rocking chair. The yellow eyes, the nice suit. Sam's seen this man before. The last time, they crossed a desert in a bullet riddled car and rushed Dylan onto a table where this man, a gryphon headed doctor, and Sam tried to save Dylan's life and helped to chop off Xander's hand. Francis was what the man called himself. Those yellow eyes, the same as Jolene's.]

[Now Jolene's father is just rocking in his chair, a walking cane with a Jaguar head in his lap.]

It's such a funny paradox. Isn't it? Is your future set to come because we told you it would? Does our telling you of the prophecy invoke it into existence?

The Shadow Council are creatures from another world. The world we've been led to believe was their home is only one. They started many worlds away. With time they took over each. For some reason they've had a hard time with ours. Jolee there pirates movies and shows them to our village. If you've seen the movie THX 1138 or recently, Priest, this is what they'll turn our world into. That's their future. Absolute servitude and control.

They stole an artifact called the Oracle Well of Phyrellex. Through it they saw Earth's future.

[The man coughs into a handkerchief, and then reaches for his cup of water and drinks.]

You go to college. You pursue whatever it is you want. In thirty years some choices you make leads to a discovery, which you are credited with, that creates negligible costing health. Your discoveries and choices lead to things like sickness, aging, and death being optional. Fifty years from now, your technology leads allows scientists to make breakthroughs and mankind is shooting through the galaxy.

In one hundred years from now mankind is like Star Trek. A utopia with no money, no racism, no isms really at all.

[The man groans, and stops rocking.]

This is an optional future. The Shadow Council has tried to keep you from this future. But I wonder, by putting so much effort into it, have they driven you towards it? Or what is the future like if the Council fails and you decide not to make those choices?

[Francis goes back to rocking.]

I would have changed the world somehow. I didn't go to one of the best colleges around, worked hard, struggled through pain and sorrow, defied everyone's expectations, to end up in a desk job. The Shadow Council may have pushed me further in the direction of utopia, but they did not cause it. I strove for it well before they were involved.

{How does that change now Sam? You killed a man back there. A new world cannot be started with a blood sacrifice.}

Who's to say that future will come to be now? The man who creates a world without death was a killer himself. {I look down, eyes sorrowful}

[Jolene shakes her head.]

Dad. You're always so weird. I'm sure Sam's going to do whatever he wants. Remember when they prophesied that you'd save the world? That didn't quite happen. And when the oracles said that Thomas was going to lead our people back into Mortal's acceptance as part of society? He committed suicide under the pressure.

[She chews on turkey and shakes her head.]

It's dumb, I'm telling you Sam. People see a possible future and sit around lamenting. Rubbish. No, I was prophesied to fall in love with a man I couldn't have, and then give my life to save his.

[She laughs, a tiny chunk of food shoots past Sam's head.]

Oh man can you believe that? Me? In love. Precious. Look. After I eat here, we have a meeting to get to. You and me. Everyone there's going to be lamenting about prophesies and talking about what terrible adventures they've been on. All they want you and your friends to do is listen and then add your story.

[She sucks down some mashed potatoes. When she finishes, Jolene cleans up a bit. Then she walks to her father and kisses him on the forehead.]

You are my precious girl. Go give them hell.

[Francis' clothing looks 1940s, a button up dress shirt and tie, a vest,
slacks. He looks at Sam for a moment. Sam sees a change in the man. When they first met he was younger, here in the dark corner he looked ancient. But as he stands up into the light, Sam can see him. Short black slicked hair, distinct French features, a clean strong jaw line, he looks like he is in his mid 30s and out of a Bogart film. The only inhuman things is the yellow tint to his irises. Was that how he was? Or does the illusion appear only in the light?]

You kill a man, a thousand men, to build a future where men are free from death. I see no fault there. Humans lost sight of their roots. My kind did too. Through whole of the species future, I believe, is more important than the short joys of a single life.

I don't know about fate or destiny, really. Maybe you're being manipulated. Or maybe you'll defy all expectations. Whatever it is, it's what you'll do. Let me tell you what happened after you left our little village, Sam.

When you left into the spirits, things went bad. The dark hordes came from outside reality for Xander's infected hand. Luckily I warded our town and was able to hold them off, same as I helped Ricardo ward this place. Jolene drove out to this state to hide the infected hand.

I fear dark things are coming for us all. This city is warded as best it can be. All the most powerful people in the world are here. Yet I think the danger is outside this place.

Stay safe young man. Of all the futures I have heard or seen myself, yours is the one I love the most. I hope you make the right choices.

[The old man hobbles on his cane over to the bunk beds and lays down. Sam knows that he didn't have that walk when they last met, meaning something happened in that time since.]

[I finish and head to the flap] Thank you sir. [I say, before leaving. After a short walk, I speak to Jolene without turning] He's wrong. Too many men have slaughtered thousands for the "greater good". I'm not the first man in human history to "bring the world to provenience". Your father is not the first man to think his war was justified. Too many men think that the ends justify the means when, in reality, the end is simply the sum of those means.

[I stop and look at her]

I honor your father because he is a brave man who saved me, my friends, and his people, but we cannot go to war with these people. We can fight them, punish them, hold them, whatever, but this "New World" is going to happen, it can't be born from a blood sacrifice.

(Ohh the honor.)

[Jolene smiles at him, pats Sam on the back.]

Old men, old ways. New men, new ways. [She laughs.] He use to say that all the time.

He saw World War II, and he saw King Henry's men savaging the Kingdom of England. But he's slowly changing. Looking to young guys like you who're gonna do the things they couldn't. Think a new way.

Let's hope you save lives in the next ten years.

[Jolene leads him into the tent. Kyra and Leepina are standing at the tent front talking. Jolene pushes in and Kyra can see the place is huge inside. Vince is sitting on one end, looking at her.]

(sorry if I'm not contributing yet -I've been refreshing the site every few hours but I'm not sure if Sam and Jolene and Jolene's father are in the same tent as Vince and the big shots having the meeting. I'm eager to return, just say the word :) )

[Kyra takes a moment to catch her breath.]
Something's wrong. We're all in danger. I need to talk to Vince.
[She throws her weapon and tablet into the bin and pushes her way into the tent.]
It's not safe here.
[She announces to everyone in the tent.]
There's a flaw in the magic protecting this place. I believe our enemies are planning to infiltrate this place and eliminate all of you while you are all in one place.

(Prepare for some text dump. A lot of people doing a lot of things. Will make characters with pics after posting text.)

[The inside of the tent seems a lot bigger than the outside. There's a table that fills most of it and despite it's massive size the place is crowded, teeming with people.]

[One empty section in the back is a namecard: Big Sis. This is where Jolene has sat, with Sam and Leepina and Vince and Xander, and an empty chair for Kyra.]

[To their left is Ricardo, at the head of the table. Sitting down with Luis and Bernard to his left and right. There's an assistant behind him, a female butler in a nice suit. Namecard: Thelema.]

[To their left, a creepy man who looks like an Arabic Lil Wayne. Complete with gold teeth, dreadlocks with a wide brimmed hat on top, chains on his neck, and a tight shiny brown leather trenchcoat. Behind him two Hispanic men in black slim clothing like a seal team without gear and a woman in a tank top and jeans. Namecard: Somosa.]

[To the left of them, a young chinese man who looks like he's barely 17 with shaggy hair and a dress shirt with tie. Behind him is two beautiful Korean women in bubblegum K-pop outfits. Namecard: Fujin.]

[To their left, a woman in navy blue business suit with a bluetooth Jawbone piece in her ear. After minutes of arguing, she finally relinquishes it to Ricardo's butler, who removes it from the tent. Behind her is a man and woman in navy blue Accellatrix officer uniforms. Namecard: Accelltrix.]

[To their left, a woman in white robes. It looks like a nun, only something more like a fantasy RPG cleric. She's Irish, red hair and freckles. Behind her is two priests with large crosses on bead necklaces. Namecard: Malleus.]

[Between Malleus and Jolene, a blond surfer with long shaggy curls of hair, a hawiaan shirt, shorts, sandles. Behind him looks like three kids from the local college in modern 20something wear. Namecard: SC4V3NG3R.]

[Jolene sits down in the chair, turning to look at Xander, Leepina, Sam, and Vince. She's nervous, but she is holding it in. They're all nervous. Without weapons or electronics, this meeting still feels dangerous.]

[In the back Vince and Xander see a familiar shape, the mask of the Magpie. He quietly watches from shadows and no one else can see him. At the other end of the tent is a full person mirror, where a reflection of a young boy with long black hair, in a black Nazi SS uniform, watches from inside the mirror. Finally, near Jolene is a pot with a short Bonsai looking tree in it about three feet high. The group can swear the thing is watching the meeting as well.]

[The room is a cacophony of a dozen different conversations. When Kyra announces herself, everyone turns but the noise doesn't go down.]

Alright. We're all here now. [He nods to Kyra.] Feel free to voice your opinion during your turn, this won't take much time. I don't know why you'd be worried, look at the room. It's like the supernatural Justice League.

[Ricardo clears his throat and the room goes quiet.]

I call to order a conclave of the organizations.

[The ambassador for Somosa, called The Horror Show, points a gnarled finger at Jolene.] Horror: You said no more than three honor'd guests. [Ricardo waves his hands, dismissing it.]

Mister Frost is A special guest, one of several that will be arriving. This violent man to my side [Ricardo nods to Vince.] is my plus one. [Horror holds his mouth silent, Ricardo pretends like nothing happened.]

Alright. We shall go clockwise around the room, starting with me, and ending with the Sisterhood. If this woman is right, we have little time to spare. Good? Good.

I've spent the last thirty hours talking down DC and New York, who are especially nervous. I've been doing my best to handle the cabals and the lodges, to get them organized. It's been politics with no sleep.

My two compatriots behind me, Luis and Bernard, have spent the last week tracking down a filthy bomb in Connecticut. Which, I might add, they did so in the nick of time. Their third partner sacrificed his life but they stopped the eastern seaboard from being a wasteland. They tell me it was demons, grabbing an opportunity during this event.

In the meantime, Thelema lost a fourth of our members to the enemy. We're not sure how, yet. But we believe they made contracts with these demons somehow. We're investigating it currently.

The most disturbing thing is we had no warning. so busy with the Shadow Council and the fall of Utropolis it blindsided us. No oracles, no prophecies. No one saw this enemy. It came out of seemingly nowhere. Which is terrifying, because it means they've hidden their plans from psychics, gods, and other forces. Despite an uneasy alignment, sources tell us the Shadow Council didn't even know about these people.

[Ricardo folds his hands and looks at Horror Show.]

Okay my friend. [Horror Show laughs, showing off his sharpened lower teeth and gold grilled top teeth.] Very very good.

The Horror Show's right hands spent last week fighting Orisis cults in Sudan. While we were distracted with the Shadow Council business, they wanted to ressurect Aten. But it was not Aten, my friends. Was not the sun god at all, but something filthy and mean. Still, we stopped them.

Horror Show spent all this morning helping the Muslim nations rid their lands of these monsters. They have special ways of dealing with demonic possession. Out of the loop, but Show here now to help.

Most of us Somosa turned. It was Horror Show and a good sixty members, all that's left. The rest is with the enemy, prepping to push a big strike somewhere and we don't know where. My people tell Show the wicked ones want New York or the Capitol. But Show'mma find out. Abuelos don't take kindly to brother spilling brother's blood.

[Horror Show licks his tongue across the sharp teeth, they realize his tongue is split in two like a snake. A surgical body modification. He turns and looks to the Chinese kid.]

Mister Bao

[The ambassedor for Fujin speaks Chinese and the older Korean girl behind him translates to English.]

My name is Wan Hai, this is my partner Wan Hun. Our Sensei here Mister Bao is very happy to see so many different faces today. [She listens.] He says that we all face a terrible enemy. The worst. Ourselves.

[She listens again.] Myself and Wan Hun, we were stopping Mongol assassins who are trying to rip a hole in reality to flood this plague across all of China. [Wan Hai argues with him for a moment in Chinese, then continues.] We succeeded in time to make our concert. But then we had to postpone all our future concerts. We are very sad now.

[The two girls mock pose with peace signs and pouty faces, then giggle.]

This enemy comes from nowhere. No warning. It is very terrible. It whispers into ears from nowhere. [She listens to his Chinese closely.] It pretends to be friends, but is gathering detractors to it's cause.

[She listens again.] Mister Bao says that he has been trying to bring the elders to reason. Mister Bao believes we need to work with foreigners and drive the vermin away. The vermin infest every corner of the world, now. We drive them from everywhere or they will hide in dark places and grow strong. [A sigh, she replies to him in Chinese.]

The elders believe that we have built a wall before, we can build a wall again and ride out this. Most our people are safe in mainland China. The Monks have us protected. So you have only a tiny portion of Fujin here in the states to stop your problem before it becomes our problem. The elders do not see it as such, but Mister Bao knows better.

We stop them here and now.

[Mister Bao gives a Jackie Chan smile and thumbs up and turns to look at Accellatrix.]
